What's different about it...

BackShape was designed by experts in the human body, rather than by experts in manufacturing. So it is a back support first, and something easy to manufacture second. The moulding techniques used to make other lumbar supports cannot achieve the tapered shape, thin profile and softness needed to fit properly between the seat-back and the occupant. Moulded foam has to be injected into the mould, fill the entire mould, and then be extracted from it in one piece without tearing, so it can only make relatively firm, rounded items. This is why most back supports lift the user's back right off the seat-back.

If BackShape were moulded, the tapered edges would not fill reliably with foam, and the soft foam would have voids in some places and and hard spots in others. Probably no company that is primarily a manufacturing company would contemplate the manufacture of the BackShape design, much of which is made by one expert individual.
